Watching a good movie is very satisfying, especially now when it is super rare to come across a very well-executed movie. And it is also not unusual to want to see more of your favorite characters in a second movie or a sequel. Unfortunately, though, some movie sequels are just not good (at all!). Some movies have more than one sequel and things just keep getting worse. At that point, it becomes very clear that the studio is milking the franchise for what it’s worth.
For today, we will be looking at some of these franchises or movie series that just did not stop when they should’ve. While the first installment in the franchise might have been good, we can’t say the same for the next installments. And if you are wondering how bad it can be, it’s pretty bad. This is why we would recommend that you arrange a movie night for yourself with friends or family or even yourself and watch a movie series to see exactly what we mean!
Be sure to test your internet beforehand so as not to be interrupted.
Jurassic Park
The infamous dinosaur franchise that we all know and love is unfortunately the first on our list. There is no doubt that the first movie, Jurassic Park, is the best and it is a timeless masterpiece. And the best part about this is that the next two movies, The Lost World: Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park III, were also somewhat commendable although not really needed.
The next trilogy in this franchise – Jurassic World, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and Jurassic World Dominion – were definitely not needed! This trilogy changed the entire theme of the original movie and would have been better off as a separate franchise of its own.
Shrek
Shrek is one of the most popular animated series that people of all ages enjoy. Unfortunately, it is also one of those movies that weren’t really meant to have a sequel, and yet, the creators decided to go ahead and do it.
While the second installment in the Shrek franchise, Shrek 2, was not so bad, Shrek the Third and Shrek Forever After, the third and fourth installments respectively, were just better off in the drafts. While it may sound like we are being too harsh, if you have watched them, or when you go and watch them, you will see exactly what we mean.
The Karate Kid
Everyone remembers growing up with The Karate Kid and wanting to learn karate afterward as well. Undoubtedly, it would be pretty exciting to learn a new sport. However, as much as we wanted to learn karate, we can’t really say all the movies are what made us want to do it.
Sure, the first movie was really heartwarming and the second movie was actually a bigger success than the first, but we can’t say the same for the third and the fourth movie. Both of these movies were pretty disappointing and the franchise could have done without them. The remake, which came much later, was also a success, much to everyone’s surprise.
Jaws
Everyone remembers the fear and terror that this movie brought to everyone when it was first released. In fact, this movie definitely changed everyone’s perspective of sharks from just curious predators to blood-thirsty hunters. This just goes to show how good this movie was especially for its time. Watching it now, you will definitely think that the animation or the effects for this movie weren’t really the best, but considering the time it was made, it is pretty good.
However, we can’t say the same for the other installments in this franchise. The second and third movies were both quite unnecessary and just became boring, instead of fearful.
Home Alone
The Home Alone franchise is one of the greatest movie series to have hit the big screens. While Kevin (or the actor that plays Kevin) is not really a kid anymore, nobody has forgotten the laughs he brought to everyone every Christmas (even with some excruciating tricks).
Unfortunately, it is also one of those series that was better off as one movie, instead of with continued installments. Home Alone 2: Lost in New York and Home Alone 3 were both pretty good films, although we could have done without them. Home Alone 4 and Home Alone: The Holiday Heist were just not needed altogether.
Despicable Me
Despicable Me is one of the most adored movies of this time and all for the right reasons! Everyone loves a supervillain that eventually develops a soft spot and becomes the nice guy. As we follow Gru on his journey of becoming a father to three orphan girls, we can’t help but notice that some movies were just not needed in this franchise.
Starting with the second and third movies, both these movies seemed like a drag of the story simply using almost the same formula for all of them. Additionally, the two other movies – Minions and Minions: The Rise of Gru – were also pretty much just using popular characters to get people to fill up the seats in the cinema. As cute as the minions might be, the story needs to be good enough as well, which it just wasn’t.
Bringing It All Together
If you are sitting here wondering how you missed all these things in these movies, we don’t blame you. Sometimes, you are too young to understand, or sometimes, it could be the agonizingly slow internet buffering every 5 seconds that’s preventing you from actually watching and enjoying the movie. To get rid of that problem, visit us and get the right connection for your internet needs!
So, which movie series do you want to start with first? Undoubtedly, you might have already watched some of them before and maybe back then, you thought the same thing as us. But there’s no greater enjoyment than watching such movies again and finding flaws you might have missed before. And with that, we bring this article to an end.
